Because December 8 will be observed as the Second Sunday of Advent, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is transferred to Monday, December 9. Previously, the obligation to attend Mass was removed for this year. However, in a recent communication from the Vatican to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Monday, December 9, 2024 is to be observed as a holy day of obligation for all Catholics this year.
